Assigning reasons to emotions

Today I'd like to explore our feelings and how we try to assign the reasons for our feelings to an external behaviour.

I feel X because of Y

For example: I feel restless because I didn’t settle into work today.

Yet, that isn’t accurate. That needs to be flipped.

You didn’t settle into work today because you feel restless.

And you feel restless because of your thinking.

Ordinarily the next step would be to then look for those thoughts and see what you want to do about them so that you could change the behaviour and emotion.

But let’s not do that today. Let's try something else.

Rather than look any further and try to locate the thoughts associated with feeling restless, how about we simply let the feeling of being restless happen?

What if we allowed ourselves to feel our feelings?

What would happen?
